| Samuel Leroy Jackson was born December 21, 1948, in Washington D.C. U.S.A but was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee by his maternal grandmother. As a child, Jackson was affected by the censorship in the South with regard to the portrayal of blacks in film.
Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood today. Over the past decade, he has been one of the busiest actors in the business. Jackson may not be known as a fastidious role selector, as he seems to release a film every other week, but with the volume has come quality.
He is not just a film star; Jackson is a thespian. The mesmerizing stage presence that first won him praise in college and in New York is still apparent on camera. The penetrating eyes, the deep bellow and the assertive body language have become familiar to audiences all over the world.
Personal life:
Jackson is married to actress Latanya Richardson, whom he met while attending Morehouse College. The couple, who live in Los Angeles, California, have a daughter, Zoe, born in 1982, who is in culinary school.
Jackson is an avid basketball fan, and especially prefers the Harlem Globetrotters. He also became an avid Liverpool F.C. fan after filming the movie The 51st State in Liverpool, England. Jackson enjoys playing golf, a game he has been reported to have become very proficient at; he has stated that if he had to choose any other career, he would be "on the PGA [tour] playing golf".
